Radio Show
ابن مشروعك
An awareness and training programme on entrepreneurship, on Radio Médéa (2017–2020)
"Ibn Mashrouak" (ابن مشروعك, literally "Build Your Project") was an awareness and training radio programme on entrepreneurship, hosted by Pr. Omar Haroun on Radio Médéa. First broadcast on 23 December 2017, the show was aimed mainly at young people, students, and holders of ideas and early-stage projects, with the goal of spreading a culture of economic initiative and raising awareness of the paths to founding and running a business.
The show's goals
"Ibn Mashrouak" sought to move beyond the traditional view that equates professional success with finding a salaried position, by establishing the idea that anyone can become an initiator and founder of a project that creates economic and social value. The show focused on:
- Encouraging a spirit of initiative and self-employment among young people
- Guiding idea-holders toward well-studied, actionable projects
- Simplifying the concepts of entrepreneurship in language accessible to listeners
- Highlighting the importance of planning and organization before launching any economic activity
- Building a realistic awareness of the challenges and opportunities involved in founding a business
Themes covered
The show offered a practical treatment of the different stages of an entrepreneurial project, from shaping the idea through to managing and sustaining it. Among its main themes:
- Choosing a project idea tied to real needs in the local market
- Studying the market, identifying customers, and analyzing competition
- Preparing a feasibility study and estimating costs, resources, and expected returns
- Building an economic model that clarifies revenue sources, costs, and proposed value
- Seeking financing and learning about support and mentoring mechanisms
- The core legal and regulatory procedures for founding a business
- Marketing, building customer trust, and improving the product or service offering
- Organizing human and financial resources and managing risk
- Dealing with a project's early difficulties, including limited experience, funding, or information
- The importance of continuous learning, innovation, and the ability to adapt to market change
- Hosting prominent local and national figures from the entrepreneurship world
Approach and impact
The programme stood out for its practical, motivational character; rather than a theoretical lecture on economic and entrepreneurial terminology, it served as a radio platform that brought concepts such as the idea, the project, the market, financing, feasibility, mentoring, and risk closer to the general public. Choosing a local radio station as the medium helped reach a wide audience across Médéa province and its surroundings, including those with no regular access to specialized training.
The show also drew its importance from linking academic knowledge with local economic reality, and from encouraging listeners to move from being recipients to becoming actors and initiators — in line with the role that universities and support institutions play in backing individual initiatives, small enterprises, and innovative projects.
"Ibn Mashrouak" was an awareness-raising media experience that, since its launch on 23 December 2017, helped spread a culture of entrepreneurship, simplify the path to founding a business, and encourage young people to turn their ideas into scalable economic initiatives. The show went off air in 2020 amid the worsening COVID-19 pandemic and the disruption it imposed on media, training, and public activities.
